Linguistic Transcription

Linguistic transcription

Linguistic transcription means converting an audio file into text form as accurate as possible. Transcription is regularly applied during meetings, interviews, dictated letters, but also when preparing reports (medical, legal, etc.).

Transcription can be applied in two ways, verbally (verbatim style) or literally (literatim style). In most cases literatim style is applied. Verbal transcription will be applied if one wants to emphasize the intonation of the speaker. When verbally transcribing, one will note everything as it is pronounced including stop words, repetitions, interjections and hitches.

With a literal transcription, the audio file is cast in a nice text form.

It is often thought that a verbal transcription is needed, which is usually not the case. The choice between transcribing literally or verbally depends on the purposes of the transcript. For most purposes, literal transcription will be the best option.

Like the translation rates, transciption rates are also negociable depending on the recording.

Audio quality

The audio quality also affects the price. A recording is generally of good quality if it is recorded in an enclosed space, is not damaged, contains no noise and the recorder is placed in the right place. If the recording is done in a noisy room or in the open air, the quality becomes quickly average. If the recording is damaged or the sound level is too low, then the recording will be of poor quality.

  • Good quality: € 1,65 - 1,75 per minute of recording (excl. VAT)
  • Average quality: € 2,15 - 2,25 per minute of recording (excl. VAT)
  • Poor quality: € 2,90 - 3 per minute of recording (excl. VAT)
